DO WE BELIEVE?
"And when the disciples saw it, they marveled, saying, How soon is the fig tree withered away!" (Matthew 21:20)
I am not sure how you study your Bible, but as I read through the word of God, it seems as though the Holy Spirit gives me themes, or certain things to look for. Recently, I have been marking "DD" in the Gospels, which stands for "disciple disconnect." This is by no means to find fault with the disciples, as we see ourselves so often in their lives. Both their good points, and their bad points.
In our scripture setting, the evening just before Jesus had said that fruit grows no more on the fig tree, the next morning, the fig tree is dried up and the disciples marvel. You would think that by now, they would know everything that Jesus said will come to pass, not just in the sweet by-and-by, but many times immediately. They had seen so many miracles, and they still are amazed. 🤔
How often are we the same way when God has done so much? He has saved us from tragedy, destruction, death, so many times, and when a new situation comes, like the disciples, we so easily forget all the miracles before.
The answer to "disciple disconnect syndrome," is to STAY in the Word of God, read His Word daily, and fill your heart with the manna from Heaven. "So then faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God" (Romans 10:17).
